Down Under, Clean Energy is Harnessed From our Waste

US 247Solar, Inc. and Australian Advanced Energy Tech Announce Methane, Solid Waste, and Clean Power Breakthrough

Great Falls, VA, USA and Victoria, Australia; November 18, 2021: Methane reduction, solid waste repurposing, and clean power generation all got a boost this week when US-based247Solar Inc. and Australia’s Advanced Energy Tech Pty Ltd (AET) announced an agreement to integrate their technologies.

Methane reduction
In line with the Global Methane Pledge announced at the recent COP26 summit in Glasgow, Scotland, the combined system is the world’s first that eliminates methane leaks from landfills by repurposing solid waste into carbon-free electricity and useful products. One of the largest of these breakthrough systems alone could repurpose as much as 50,000 tons of waste per year, equivalent to removing more than 16,000 cars from the roads. Customers can add as many systems to their operations as required.

The first commercial-scale system will be built at the Pyramid Hill landfill in Victoria, AU, and operational in 2022. Energy from this new source will provide a new revenue stream for landfill owners, and enhanced repurposing will extend the operational lives of the landfills and allow landfill sites to adapt to a more sustainable operating model. The near-term addressable market is more than 1,300 municipal landfills in Australia alone.

“Partnering with AET to offer municipalities a new waste management system that eliminates future methane leaks and provides zero-carbon electricity is a big win for climate change solutions in Australia and the world. Partnerships like this reinforce the 247Solar mission to bring exceptional zero-carbon energy solutions to the fight against climate change,” said Bruce Anderson, 247Solar CEO.

CEO of Advanced Energy Tech Adam Riley said, “We are very pleased our companies are working together to solve some of the biggest environmental issues we currently face. The integration of these two technologies sets a strong foundation for building our partnership into the future.”

Waste repurposing
AET’s waste to resource systems expand the types of materials that can be repurposed by reforming waste that otherwise would result in landfill into valuable products like engineered rock for the construction industry, biochar for agri-business, and more. Their systems operate alongside existing waste and recycling services and add value to current recycling streams by repurposing what has previously been considered problematic waste into usable products and energy.

Carbon-free electricity
In the combined solution, clean hot exhaust from AET’s thermal process is converted directly into zero-carbon electricity by 247Solar’s revolutionary Heat2Power™ turbine — the first-ever commercial turbine able to produce power directly from ambient-pressure hot air without combustion or emissions. Electricity generated in this way can be used to power industrial applications or be sold to the local grid. The turbine is manufactured under license by Capstone Green Energy® [NASDAQ: CGRN]

Capstone's highly efficient microturbine technology is at the heart of the pre-engineered Heat2Power™ solution. Two C200 microturbines are part of a breakthrough renewable energy solution with no carbon or criteria pollutant emissions. The turbine’s technology is extremely low maintenance, requiring only 4 to 6 hours of maintenance a year. This equates to high overall system availability and aligns with the overall objective of providing renewable power, 24/7/365.
