Capstone Expands Presence in Hospital Market With Order for C1000 From Michigan Hospital
CHATSWORTH, Calif., April 16, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, today announced it continues to expand its presence in the hospital market with the sale of a dual-mode C1000 Power Package to a Michigan hospital that will operate in a combined heat and power (CHP) application.
The C1000 will provide both prime and backup power to save energy and increase power reliability at the mission critical facility.
In prime power mode, the C1000 will use natural gas as fuel to provide an estimated 25 percent of the hospital's total power. The Power Package will generate electricity to offset the hospital's reliance on utility power, which will cut energy costs. Microturbine exhaust heat will create steam for facility heating, which makes the entire system extremely efficient. If the grid fails, the grid-connected C1000 will run independently to protect the hospital's critical loads by automatically kicking into stand-alone mode.
Capstone distributor BHP Energy secured the order and will commission the C1000 this fall.
"The hospital purchased the Capstone C1000 to anchor its CHP application," said David Blair, BHP Energy President. "We are using the C1000 as part of a mission critical power system designed to provide reliable, efficient power and steam to the hospital."
"For hospitals, power failure is not an option," said Jim Crouse, Capstone's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Capstone dual-mode CHP microturbines not only deliver prime power and heating, they integrate backup power capabilities more reliably than other distributed generation sources. Dual-mode microturbines can automatically switch to stand-alone mode to carry critical loads."
