Capstone Turbine Secures Another Order From the Health Care Industry to Upgrade a New York City Cancer Center
CHATSWORTH, Calif., Nov. 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Capstone Turbine Corporation (www.capstoneturbine.com) (Nasdaq:CPST), the world's leading clean technology manufacturer of microturbine energy systems, announced today that it received another order from the health care industry for a C1000 microturbine to upgrade the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, New York. Earlier this year Capstone received orders for two C800s and a C1000 to be installed in two Southern California area hospitals.
RSP Systems, Capstone's distributor for New York, secured the order, which is scheduled to ship in mid 2015 and be commissioned in early 2016.
Health care facilities are seeking out new and innovative ways to be more energy efficient. According to The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), cutting energy consumption helps reduce operational costs, freeing hospital resources for patient care. For facilities like the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the benefits of implementing a clean-and-green Capstone microturbine system can go beyond just the dollar savings.
Capstone's natural gas fueled microturbine will be used in a combined cooling, heat and power (CCHP) application to provide hot air, hot water, and chilled water to the cancer treatment and research facility. The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center chose clean, efficient, and reliable Capstone microturbines to diminish their utility costs and carbon footprint as well as provide additional backup power in the event of a utility blackout. The microturbine system will operate in dual-mode, acting as the primary energy source while also synchronizing with the local utility grid. Once commissioned, the system will decrease the operating costs of the cancer center by shrinking demand during peak hours and cutting the overall energy purchased from the grid.
The microturbine system was designed for continuous operation in order to provide a continuous energy load reduction. With energy efficiency levels for the system approaching 90 percent, the cancer center will soon benefit from having lower operating expenses, minimal system maintenance, and backup power capabilities. Capstone microturbines meet the strictest worldwide emissions standards without exhaust after treatment, making them one of the cleanest power generation options in the marketplace today.
"Capstone's C1000 microturbine was chosen for its reliability and stand-by capabilities," said Bruce Beckwith, Senior Vice President of Operations and Sales at RSP Systems. "It is the industry leading technology within the microturbine that will enable the cancer center to be both reliable and energy efficient for the next twenty years," added Beckwith.
"Forward-looking health care centers in both New York and California are seeking out new and innovative ways to be more energy efficient and moderate operating costs," said Jim Crouse, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Capstone Turbine. "These forward-looking hospitals in New York and California will set new standards of energy excellence for other health care providers around the country," added Crouse.
